Sprinkled With Love

Welcome to Sprinkled With Love! I started this blog in 2009 when I started taking Wilton cake decorating classes, as a way to share my decorated cakes with others. Since then my family & friends have kept me busy creating birthday cakes, wedding cakes & more. Sprinkled with love has grown to be so much more since then. Please take a look around to see what I have been up to, and remember, share some love and leave a comment!

First Fondant Cake

I am currently taking the Wilton Fondant and Gum Past Class at Micheals. My last class was cancelled after I already had my cake baked and covered with Fondant so I decided to play around a little bit and this is what I came up with.

I love the colour pink, so I decided to make a couple different shades. After searching cakes online, I new that I loved the 'ball' border along the bottom- I think it is so cute. From there I cut out different sizes of circles and randomly placed them around the cake...doing my best to cover up my mistakes! haha!

Fondant will definatley take some getting used to, but I can already tell it is going to be fun. My biggest struggle so far is getting it rolled out nicely with no creases in it, but I am sure practice will help with this. I am sure Michaels will also get some more money out of me to buy some great tools to help me with fondant!
I can't wait to continue to work with this icing!

Name Change

I recently came up with the name "Sprinkled With Love." I figure that this works perfectly for the cake decorating I have been doing!  Watch for upcoming changes!

Wiltone Course 2: Final Cake!

Throughout Wilton Course 2: Flowers & Borders, we used Buttercream Icing and Royal Icing. Royal Icing hardens quickly and is like candy. During the 2nd and 3rd class we made a variety of flowers that we then placed on our final cake during the 4th class.

The basket weave was a bit tedious, but was easier then expected- and it looks pretty neat too. Next time I would do another level on top as my border didn't end up covering as low as I thought it would, but I figure it's pretty good for a first attempt.

The birds were made using a colour flow/royal icing- another great technique to use.

I figure this would be a great Easter/Spring Cake.

Fondant & Gum Paste Class 1

Last night I had my first class working with Fondant. We learned simple techniques such as tinting, marbalizing, rolling and covering the cake board and a cake. There were only two other people in the class so I will get lots of one on one time which will be great.

I learned lots about Fondant and am excited to learn more throughout the coming weeks. Next week we make a cake and then we will do our second one on the final class. I can't wait!!

Wilton Course 1 Final Cake: The Wilton Rose

It took a lot of practice but I finally figured out the Wilton Rose! It is actually quite fun to make and I look forward to using it more in the future. This technique will continue to require practice but looks beautiful when it is done!

The cake was pretty good to eat too! Mmmm!
